Episode 1 | Measuring to transform: EPDs for alloys and oxides

Raffmetal’s sustainability journey has developed over time through investments, innovation and management systems capable of integrating environmental considerations into industrial decision-making. Among these tools, the Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for alloys and oxides represent one of the most significant pillars of the company’s ESG framework.
The decision to carry out Life Cycle Assessment studies across all product ranges stems from the intention to understand and quantify environmental impacts throughout the entire life cycle, providing verified and comparable data. This approach has enabled Raffmetal to certify its alloy ranges according to international standards, making the environmental value generated through aluminium recycling measurable.
As highlighted by Michele Bortolami, HSE Director:
“EPDs represent a cultural step even before a technical one: they allow us to share reliable environmental information and strengthen the credibility of the circular model.”
Internal expertise has played a key role in developing this path. Silvia Stefani, Environmental Specialist, points out that:
“Life cycle analysis allows us to accurately identify areas for improvement and integrate sustainability into decision-making and design processes.”
EPDs for alloys and oxides are therefore not only a communication tool, but a structural element of Raffmetal’s ESG system, capable of connecting measurement, transparency and continuous improvement.
