Raffmetal and the University of Bergamo: a strategic dialogue on the impacts of CBAM and ETS on the aluminium value chain
The collaboration between Raffmetal and the University of Bergamo, Department of Business Sciences, has led to an International Challenge focused on analysing the European directives CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) and ETS (Emission Trading System) and their effects along the European aluminium value chain.
The project involved students from the International Business Management Advanced course, under the guidance of Professor Cristina Bettinelli, in an in-depth analysis aimed at understanding the impact of European climate policies within the global competitive landscape.
The outcome provided a clear picture: while fully supporting the environmental objectives of these regulations, Raffmetal believes that the current design of CBAM presents significant critical issues, with the risk of unfairly penalising the European aluminium industry. This highlights the need to review the mechanism to ensure its environmental effectiveness without undermining the competitiveness of European producers.
The partnership with the University of Bergamo represented an important opportunity for dialogue between academia and industry, generating valuable insights and contributing to the development of young talents who will be called upon to address the regulatory and market challenges of the sector.
Raffmetal thanks Professor Cristina Bettinelli, the University of Bergamo and all the students involved for their contribution to this strategic discussion on the future of the aluminium industry.
